Our first roundtable event with Insider: The inside scoop!
We recently held our very first roundtable event in collaboration with Insider Media, bringing together developers, public sector representatives and property experts to discuss the growing build-to-rent (BTR) sector across the North West.
The event was held in our award-winning BTR development Plaza 1821. Fuelled with coffee and a mouthwatering brunch spread from Moose Coffee, located on the ground floor of Plaza 1821, our guests had some very inspiring discussions!
Here’s the highlights…
Exploring the changing landscape of build-to-rent
The discussion kicked off with Jessica Turner, Redwing’s Head of Partnerships and Growth, who highlighted the rising trend of build-to-rent suburban developments. Jess emphasised the growing demand for stable and secure housing options, especially among families, which we have seen through our recent work with Peel L&P as managing agent for their BTR arm, Letta.
Michelle Brooks, Redwing’s Director of Operations, discussed the increasing professionalisation of the BTR industry. Michelle mentioned whilst there are challenges for smaller landlords and developers, this ultimately leads to higher quality homes and improved rental prices.
BTR market opportunities
Adam Ross, Business Development Director at Integritas Property Group, highlighted the promising opportunities in Liverpool’s BTR market. Adam emphasised the city’s investment potential and the positive impact of large-scale developments like Liverpool Waters, which the event venue at our Plaza 1821 development is part of!
Sophie Bevan, Director of Development and Major Projects at Liverpool City Council, outlined exciting upcoming residential projects in Liverpool, including Festival Gardens development. Sophie stressed the importance of creating diverse, mixed-use communities that cater to various housing needs.
Sustainability and social impact
The discussion also touched on the importance of sustainability and social impact in BTR developers. Peter Reavey, Regional Director at Graham Construction, highlighted efforts to incorporate sustainable practices and community engagement in projects like Millers Quay at Wirral Waters.
Michael Allison, Commercial Director at Roma Finance, highlighted the trend of repurposing town centres for residential purposes, citing examples like St Helens and Huyton. Michael emphasised the importance of BTR residential developments in revitalising town centres and creating vibrant, sustainable communities.
Sam Hyde, Executive Director at Somnium Property Group, discussed investment opportunities in various areas, emphasising the importance of commercial and leisure investment alongside residential development. Sam highlighted the need for a holistic approach to development, with a focus on creating vibrant, mixed-use communities that cater to the diverse needs of residents.
Matt Floyd, Development Manager at Cheyne Capital, discussed proactive approaches to sustainability, emphasising the importance of early engagement in the design process and creation of genuinely diverse communities.
Creating communities
The event concluded with a discussion on the importance of diversity in the housing market and the evolution of the BTR sector to meet the changing housing needs. Guests emphasised the need for genuine community development and housing options for various demographics, giving renters choice.
What’s next!
The roundtable event really captured the potential growth BTR has on the property sector. With guests collectively advising by embracing sustainability, social impact and community-focused developments, the BTR sector in the North West will guarantee continued growth and provide an answer to the supply versus demand imbalance across the region.
Thank you to all our guests who joined us at our first roundtable event, it was great to meet new faces, build new relationships and together provide insights to opportunities and challenges for the North West property sector.
