Finding everyone a place to call home.
Redwing have raised £925 for The Whitechapel Centre with their brand-new Christmas Campaign to help end homelessness in Liverpool.
Toni Murphy-Roberts, Events & Community Fundraiser at The Whitechapel Centre said:
“We’re so grateful to the team at Redwing who chose to support us this year. More people than ever in Liverpool are facing Christmas without a safe place to call home. We’ve worked with 4,368 individuals this year, a 15% increase on 2022 and our outreach team saw a record number of people sleeping rough, 564 individuals, that’s a 27% increase.
“The Whitechapel Centre works with people experiencing homelessness every day of the year, but Christmas is a particularly difficult and emotional time. The money raised by Redwing will help us to make Christmas a little better for anyone who is sleeping rough, offering a warm welcome, Christmas lunch and a gift. For many, this will be their first Christmas without their home.
“Thank you to everyone who participated, this means so much to us and even more to the people we support!”
Redwing believes that everyone should have a place to call home. That’s why this year their Christmas campaign aimed to raise money for the Whitechapel Centre, Liverpool’s leading homelessness charity, with competition to win their latest property listing ‘the sweetest place in town’. A beautiful LEGO® gingerbread house, complete with gum drop roof tiles, jelly glazed windows and cosy candy cane furnishings.
The LEGO® set, worth £160, was won by Christopher Baker just in time for Christmas by donating £5 and answering a simple question, what colour is gingerbread? All donations go to The Whitechapel Centre.
Michelle Brooks, Director of Operations at Redwing said:
“Our mission at Redwing is to help everyone find a place to call home, we’re so proud to support The Whitechapel Centre this year. The appeal has been a huge success and I’m incredibly proud of the team, they’ve created a fun competition all for an amazing cause to help more people find and maintain a home this winter across Liverpool. From all of us at Redwing, thank you to everyone who took part!”
Rough sleeping has doubled since Autumn 2022 and an emergency has been declared in Liverpool as an urgent call to Government for funding has been made. Redwing’s campaign aimed to raise money to support The Whitechapel centre throughout this crisis and increase awareness of the importance of having a place to call home. In partnership with Resonance, Redwing have further supported people at risk or suffering from homelessness through Liverpool’s Housing First programme, bringing 68 homes to market for those experiencing homelessness across the city this year.
