Second phase of New Ferry regeneration project receives the green light!

Great news! Planning has been granted for the second phase of the New Ferry regeneration project.

The development will bring 43 new homes to the area available for rent-to-buy with Redwing and affordable rent with Regenda Homes. Homes will be a mix of houses and apartments constructed by M&Y Maintenance and Construction.

On Thursday 18th April, Wirral Council’s planning committee unanimously approved plans to create the 43 affordable homes on the site of the Woodhead Street car park and a former Co-op store on New Chester Road.

Councillors praised the development for its new green spaces and energy-efficient homes.  Additional improvements to the high street will be carried out by Wirral Council which will revitalise the area.

As part of the project, public car parking on Grove Street will be revamped, including the creation of additional parking spaces and the installation of new street-lighting and CCTV.

Employment, training and work experience opportunities will be available for local people, including apprenticeships supported by The Learning Foundry. Primary school children will explore the world of work through the Positive Footprints’ award-winning Raising Aspirations Programme.

The regeneration of New Ferry will create more than 70 new homes in total. Construction to create 34 one and two apartments across two other sites began earlier this year.

Michelle Brooks, Director of Operations at Redwing, said: "We're delighted to be working as one team on the New Ferry project with our partners M&Y Maintenance and Construction and Regenda Homes, as part of The Regenda Group.  New Ferry is an exciting project that not only brings an excellent standard of affordable homes to the market but will also regenerate the area and create opportunities for local people, something the community has been patiently waiting for seven years. We look forward to watching this site progress and get one step closer to bringing the homes to market!"

Michael Birkett, CEO of The Regenda Group, said: “This is a truly transformational project that will see the regeneration of New Ferry. We’re not only building great quality, affordable homes, we’re investing in the wider community. As a regeneration group, we know it takes more than bricks and mortar to make a place thrive, and we want to work with local people and organisations to deliver a lasting legacy we can all be proud of.”
